How Australian print manufacturer Mediapoint combines automation and Canon Colorado M-series technology to increase production capacity and explore new applications.

Canon Production Printing Australia presented Mediapoint co-founder Jamie Xuereb with a commemorative trophy to celebrate the company’s 20th anniversary.

For Mediapoint, a Melbourne-based trade print manufacturer, growth is about more than producing more. It is about creating an operation that can handle increasing volumes efficiently while giving print resellers more opportunities to expand their own offering.

Co-founded by brothers Jamie and Jason Xuereb, Mediapoint celebrates 20 years in business and supports more than 1,000 trade customers across Australia. Working exclusively with print resellers, the company uses a blind-shipping model that allows finished products to reach end customers under the reseller’s own brand.

Automation at the core

Mediapoint is building a highly automated manufacturing platform, with workflows covering quoting, ordering, artwork proofing, production and freight. The aim is to reduce manual intervention, improve consistency and increase capacity without having to scale labour at the same rate as production.

Two Canon Colorado M-series printers play an important role in this approach. They provide the capacity and flexibility to balance workloads, maintain service levels during peak periods and keep production moving during planned maintenance.

UVgel technology also helps streamline the production process. Prints are ready for finishing straight off the printer, without drying or outgassing delays. Combined with dual-roll media handling, this helps reduce operator intervention and keep jobs moving through the factory.

Opening up new applications

Beyond high-volume production, the Colorado M-series gives Mediapoint opportunities to develop more distinctive, higher-value applications. White ink enables printing on clear, coloured and metallic materials, opening up possibilities for window graphics, decals, labels, retail graphics and packaging prototypes.

Mediapoint is also exploring textured effects, raised patterns and simulated embossing. These applications give its reseller customers more ways to differentiate their products and offer something beyond standard print.

For Mediapoint, automation is not simply about producing more in less time. By bringing equipment, software and workflows together, the company is working towards a more scalable business that can handle growing demand while expanding its range of applications.
